Meet Benji, a gorgeous 9-year-old Yellow Labrador who, on the whole, is a fantastic lad and great fun to be around. He is everything you would expect from a Lab — goofy, playful, affectionate and loyal, with a lovely character that is very easy to fall in love with. Benji does, however, have some specific behavioural needs, so we are looking for a particular type of home where these can be understood and managed, allowing him to settle, feel secure and truly thrive.

Benji can display some low-level resource guarding, usually around high-value items. This is something that can be managed and redirected with distraction, but his new family will need to be experienced, confident and understanding of his needs. Benji must be the only dog in the home. Although he is dog-friendly, mixes well with other dogs and happily enjoys walks alongside them, sharing his home with another dog gives him something else to guard against. Being an only dog will help reduce the opportunity for this behaviour. He will also need an adult-only home. Benji is loving towards children when he meets them, but sharing his living space with children would increase the potential for his guarding behaviour. His adopters will also need to understand that the transition into a new home can be stressful, and his behaviour may temporarily become more pronounced before improving as he settles, learns to trust his new people and feels secure.

We appreciate that this may sound like a lot to ask, but Benji really is a wonderful dog. Beneath these behaviours is a goofy, loving and loyal Labrador who has so much to offer the right person. With patience, consistency, understanding and plenty of love, we truly believe Benji can blossom. We aren't looking for a perfect home — we're looking for his person, someone who will see the lovely dog underneath the behaviours and give him the time and security he needs to succeed.
